Director of Communications


Title: Director of Communications
Reports to: Senior Vice President & COO
Salary: Salary is commensurate with education and work experience
Location: HACR’s offices in Washington, D.C.

The Director of Communications is responsible for HACR’s strategic communications and marketing, which support our efforts to accomplish our mission of promoting Hispanic inclusion in Corporate America.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and implement HACR’s annual communications and marketing plan, social media strategy, media outreach, and communications calendar.
• Direct and guide the organizations’ communication and marketing needs.
• Develop content for published materials, website, newsletter, email blasts, web posts, press releases, op-eds, and other outlets as necessary.
• Manage the organization’s website and social media platforms.
• Secure interviews, editorial opportunities, and speaking engagements for HACR Senior Staff.
• Respond to media inquiries in a timely manner.
• Responsible for the overall management, coordination, and implementation of the HACR App.
• Negotiate contracts with 3rd party vendors, as needed.
• Serve as the point of contact for strategic partners, consultants, and vendors relative to the organization’s communication needs.
• Build relationships with media, influencers, and subject matter experts.
• Manage the organization’s media partnerships.
• Ensure expenses for organization’s communication needs remain within established budgets and, if necessary, implement cost-saving alternatives.
• Develop communications goals and metrics for assessing their success.
• Develop an evaluation framework to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the organization’s communications and marketing initiatives and determine opportunities for improvement and increased effectiveness.
• Work with Development team to ensure that database records and corporate member contact information is current.
• Assist Director of Corporate Development in implementing organization’s corporate relations strategy, including serving as a point of contact for corporate members when necessary.
• Work with Research Institute and Programs team to develop marketing and event materials for research, programs, and annual events.
• Supervise and direct staff/interns.
• Perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned.


A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a relevant field along with 3-5 years of practical experience in the field is required, some nonprofit experience is preferred. Leadership skills are also required for directing staff and overseeing project implementation, management, and completion. These requirements may change to meet the business needs of the organization.

Additional qualifications include:

• Superior project management, time management, presentation, and planning skills are essential.
• Ability to coordinate, prioritize, and accomplish multiple tasks in a fast–paced environment.
• Have experience in managing budgets and negotiating with vendors.
• Confident and comfortable interacting with a diverse group of individuals from all sectors of the community including C-suite level executives at Fortune 500 companies.
• Be knowledgeable of event registration, database, CMS, social media, and CRM software.
• Experience with Cvent, Salesforce, Meltwater, Google Analytics, Hootsuite, Audiense and Sprout Social.
• Proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
• Have a high level of professionalism and discretion with handling confidential information.
• Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in information technology, social media, and audio/visual.
• Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to management.
• Have experience managing staff (direct-reports, interns, volunteers).
• Team player and effective collaborator with staff, consultants, and vendors.
• HTML experience preferred but not required.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
