| Published on June 5, 2006 |
HACR and Harvard Business School (HBS) will launch the fourth class of highly qualified Hispanic candidates to serve as directors on private and public boards.
The Sarbanes-Oxley Act provided for greater opportunity to nominate and appoint outside independent directors to corporate boards.Hispanic directors have been known to fulfill this role not because of their qualifications but because of their historical absence in corporate board rooms.According to the 2003-2004 HACR Corporate Governance Report, Hispanics hold less than 2 percent of all Fortune 1,000 board seats.
The Program will explore critical issues ranging from board composition, director selection, and compensation...to the board's role in strategic planning, overseeing financial reporting and disclosure, and top-management succession. Participants leave the program with skills and strategies for adding significant value to the contributions of their boards and specific ideas for improving these boards.
The HACR/HBS Executive Education Program on Corporate Governance: Leadership in the Boardroom is scheduled for August 13-16 at Harvard Business School.Applications are being accepted and can be downloaded by visiting HACR’s Web site at www.hacr.org.
Monday, July 3, 2006 is the deadline to submit applications.
