The publisher of the nation’s largest Spanish-language newspaper joined Bank of America Board of Directors.
"Monica Lozano is a successful entrepreneur and leading advocate for the Hispanic business community," said Bank of America Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ken Lewis. "This, coupled with her outstanding record of community leadership in both California and across the nation, uniquely qualifies her as an ideal director for a company that is making such a large impact in the financial lives of all Americans."
Monica Lozano, 49, is the CEO and publisher of La Opinion, a Los Angeles newspaper with a daily circulation of about 125,000. She also chairs the National Council of La Raza, the leading Hispanic advocacy group on issues including economic opportunity and civil rights.
The Charlotte company said two members of its board were stepping down because they are 72 years old, the mandatory age for retirement. They are Charles Coker, the chairman of South Carolina-based Sonoco Products Company, and Edward Romero, a former ambassador to Spain.
The changes will leave the bank with 18 board members.
