El Hispano News Welcomes AT&T Partnership with “Parents Step Ahead’ Program |

AT&T, Inc. will participate in El Hispano News, a member of the National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP), “Parents Step Ahead” program.
El Hispano News “Parents Step Ahead” program is a collaborative initiative with the White House on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans, the National Association of Hispanic Publications Foundation, and the Dallas Independent School District.This program is meant to educate, enable, and empower Hispanic parents to take a proactive role in the personal and educational development of their children; and make a positive impact in their lives.
“AT&T sponsoring ‘Parents Step Ahead’ is a great validation of what this program is all about,” said Lupita Colmenero, associate publisher of El Hispano News and president of NAHP.“For the Hispanic community to process, as a whole, parents must be prepared on how to become constructive educators and better role models at home.”
The program will consist of a series of seminars; open to the public, which will be conducted over the course of three events.These events will be held at three different elementary schools in predominantly Hispanic neighborhoods.Seminar topics will include:
- Importance of computer literacy and dangers of online child predators
- Financial literacy (college savings)
- Test-taking skills
- Drugs and gang violence- Family counseling
