Kimberly Casiano Kimberly Casiano is president of Casiano Communications, Inc., a publishing and marketing firm whose media and services are driven to enhance people’s lives and business opportunities. Founded 32 years ago by her family, Casiano Communications is the largest Hispanic publisher of magazines and periodicals in the United States.
In 1981, Casiano started Caribbean Marketing Overseas Corporation, a consulting firm specializing in financing, trade and investment promotion between the United States, the Caribbean and Central America.
In December of 2003, Casiano was elected to the board of directors of Ford Motor Company, making her the highest-ranking Hispanic woman in corporate America. She serves on three Ford board committees: Finance, Nominating and Corporate Governance, and Environmental and Public Policy. In addition to serving on Ford’s board of directors, Casiano serves on the board of trustees of the Hispanic College Fund and the board of the Young President’s Organization, Puerto Rico chapter.
Casiano graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University and obtained her M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, becoming at the time the youngest woman to have received this degree in the history of Harvard University. She is a member of the Access America Task Force and the Small Business Committee of the board of directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. In addition, Casiano is a member of the Procurement Council of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Roland A. Hernandez Roland A. Hernandez is founder and managing partner of Hernandez Media Ventures, a private held entity engaged in the acquisition and management of media assets. Prior to founding Hernandez Media Ventures, Hernandez was the chairman and CEO of the Telemundo Group, Inc. While at Telemudo, he oversaw all of the company’s media operationgs, including Telemundo’s group of owned and operated television stations and the Telemundo Network. Prior to joining Telemundo, Hernandez served as president of Interspan Communications, a company engaged in a variety of services related to Spanish media. Principal business activities of Interspan included ownership and operation of television properties and the provision of marketing and management consulting to companies targeting the United States Hispanic population.
Hernandez received an A.B., cum laude, from Harvard College and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. He sits on the boards of directors of Wal-Mart Stores, MGM MIRAGE, Inc., Ryland Homes and Vail Resorts, Inc. and is chairman of the Audit Committees for Wal-Mart and MGM. In addition, he serves on the board of Harvard Law School, the Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University, the Annenberg School of communication at U.S.C. and the President’s Council on International Activities at Yale University.
Monica Lozano Monica Lozano is publisher and CEO of La Opinión, the nation’s largest Spanish language daily newspaper. She also serves as senior vice president of Impremedia, LLC, the parent company of La Opinión, and the nation’s first Spanish language newspaper chain.
Prior to being named publisher, Lozano served as president where she was responsible for the day-to-day management of the newspaper, overseeing the Marketing, Advertising, Editorial, Business Development and Finance departments of the paper. She has been with La Opinión since 1985, having previously served as associate publisher and editor prior to being named president.
Under Lozano’s direction, La Opinión has entered into important strategic partnerships with key media companies, non-profits, government and private business. More recently, these efforts have included a program to inform one million Latino parents about education issues; the development and statewide distribution of annual health-related supplements; an outreach campaign on the Cal-Grants program on behalf of the State of California and a series of seminars for small business owners held in conjunction with the SBA and Staples stores.
Lozano serves on the board of directors of the Walt Disney Company, Tenet Health Care Corporation and Union Bank of California. In 2001, she was appointed to the University of California board of regents, and has also served on the board of trustees of the University of Southern California since 1990. Lozano sits on numerous non-profit boards including the California HealthCare Foundation and serves as chair for the National Council of La Raza.
Solomon D. Trujillo Solomon D. Trujillo has been a successful and respected senior executive in the telecommunications industry for nearly 30 years. He has served as the chief executive officer of Orange SA, one of Europe’s leading wireless companies, chairman and chief executive officer of a high-tech start-up, Graviton Inc. and chairman and CEO of US WEST up until its merger with Qwest Communications in 2000. Under his leadership, US WEST, a former Bell company operating in 14 western and mid-western states, ranked first among the nation’s telecommunications companies in many areas including financial performance, technological innovation and customer service.
Trujillo’s broader business experience, expertise and management skills are reflected in the advisory and non-executive roles he holds. He serves on the corporate boards of PepsiCo, Target Corporation, Gannett and EDS and is on the advisory board of Alcatel. In addition, he is a Board Trustee at UCLA for Public Policy and the Tomas Rivera Policy Institute.
A leader in numerous community activities and honored with many national and local service awards, Trujillo received the Ronald H. Brown Corporate Bridge Builder Award in 1999 and the Corporate Recognition Award from A Better Chance in 2000.
Trujillo holds a bachelor of science degree in business and a M.B.A from the University of Wyoming and has had honorary doctoral degrees conferred on him by the universities of Colorado and Wyoming.
Albert C. Zapanta Albert C. Zapanta is the president and CEO of the United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce based in Washington, D.C. The United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit, bi-national corporation that promotes trade and investment between the U.S. and Mexico.
Zapanta has worked in business, government and politics for over thirty-six years. In 2002, U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfield appointed Zapanta as chairman of the Reserve Forces Policy Board, which acts as the principal independent policy advisor to the Secretary of Defense on all matters involving the Reserve components of the U.S. Armed Forces. He has held numerous Presidential appointments including White House fellow and Senate-confirmed Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Management and Administration. He began his military career enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1964 reaching the rank of Sergeant in the 12th Special Forces Group.
In the private sector, Zapanta has worked for Bethlehem Steel and prior to his retirement, ARCO. In 2004, Tyson Foods, Inc. appointed Zapanta to their board of directors, making him the first Hispanic board member in Tyson history.
Zapanta earned a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Public Administration and Doctorate from the University of Southern California. He is a chairman of the board of the U.S.- Mexico Cultural and Educational Foundation.
