Alejandro Silva Named to Walgreens

Alejandro Silva, chairman and CEO of Evans Food Group, Ltd., was recently elected to Walgreens board of directors as an independent director. He is the first Hispanic to serve on the Walgreens’ board. Walgreens is a Fortune 44 company with over $47 billion dollars in revenues in 2007.   
New Report Finds Little Change in Diversity on Corporate Boards

The Alliance for Board Diversity today announced the findings of its recent study, Women and Minorities on Fortune 100 Boards, which showed little progress over two years in bringing diversity to the boardrooms of America’s leading corporations. According to the report, white men still held a disproportionate share of board director seats, although the study revealed small gains in the share of board seats held by minority women. It also noted that white men realized a net gain of 21 seats as compared with a net gain of three for all women and minority men.

Capturing the richness of colors influenced from Latin America and the Caribbean, the vibrant palette will feature more than 70 colors. The color palette is the first of its kind and was created after research demonstrated that consumers would welcome a paint line that reflects Hispanic culture, with Spanish names to provide inspiration through a collection of shades they can relate to visually. On July 5, 2005, Michael L. Barrera assumed his new post as the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) president and CEO. In 2005, USHCC joined the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility as a coalition member. HACR Coalition Members consist of 14 national Hispanic organizations that form the backbone of HACR and whose executive directors, presidents and CEOs serve as board members to the organization.

Michael Montelongo Elected to Board of Denny’s Corporation

On May 25, Denny’s elected Michael Montelongo to its board of directors. Montelongo is an alumnus of the 2004 HACR/HBS Executive Education Program on Corporate Governance. He currently is the senior vice president for strategic marketing at Sodexho, Inc., an international provider of food and facilities management services. Montelongo formerly served as Assistant Secretary of the United States Air Force for Financial Management and Comptroller. He was also principal adviser to the Secretary of the Air Force, Chief of Staff and other senior Air Force officials for budgetary and fiscal matters.
