On July 1, Solomon “Sol” Trujillo will join Telstra, Australia’s biggest telecommunications company, as chief executive officer replacing Ziggy Switkowski.
“On behalf of HACR and the board of directors, we congratulate Sol on his appointment as CEO and wish him the best of luck in this new and exciting challenge.” said Alfonso E. Martinez, president and CEO of HACR. “Sol is literally an icon within the US Hispanic community and a highly respected business professional throughout the world.”
“During his career he (Trujillo) has successfully managed fixed-lines, wireless, broadband and directory business - virtually every facet of Telstra’s business,” commented Donald McGauchie, chairman of Telstra. The Telstra board has set expectations for Trujillo to “drive cultural and organizational change throughout Telstra, enabling the corporation to further embrace a service-driven, customer-focused way of doing business”
Trujillo has been a successful and respected senior executive for nearly 30 years. He has served as the chief executive officer of Orange SA, one of Europe’s leading wireless companies; chairman and chief executive officer of a high-tech start-up, Graviton, Inc.; and chairman and CEO of U.S. West, Inc. up until its merger with Qwest Communications in 2000.
He is on the advisory board of Alcatel and is a board trustee at UCLA for Public Policy and the Tomás Rivera Policy Institute. In addition, Trujillo serves as board of director for EDS Corporation, Gannett Co., Inc., PepsiCo, Inc. and Target Corporation. Trujillo holds a B.S. degree in business and a M.B.A. from the University of Wyoming and has had honorary doctoral degrees conferred on him by the universities of Colorado and Wyoming.
