Antonio Gil Morales Named National Commander of American GI Forum of the U.S.

Antonio Gil Morales was named National Commander of the American GI Forum of the United States (AGIF) during the 57th AGIF annual conference. The AGIF, a coalition member of HACR, is the second oldest national Hispanic organization in the country and the only Hispanic veteran’s organization that from its inception includes a veteran’s family.

“On behalf of HACR, I want to congratulate National Commander Morales for being elected anew as National Commander,” said Alma Morales Riojas, chair of HACR. “Tony has served the AGIF his entire life and it will be a pleasure to welcome him back to the board of directors he previously chaired. Working with Tony has always been a pleasure and the HACR Board of Directors and I look forward to working with him once more."

 

Morales previously served as the Nationl Chairman of the AGIF for four years and as Texas chairman for two years.  In addition, he has served as the executive director director of the AGIF Hispanic Education Foundation; chairman of the board of directors of SER-Jobs for Progress; the National Veterans Outreach Program; and the AGIF Business Development Center.  Morales honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1961.

Morales’s extensive involvement has given him the opportunity to represent the interest of the nation’s Hispanic community. He is a charter member of the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda; MANA, A National Latina Organization; and the Mexican American Solidarity Foundation.

The AGIF, founded in 1948, is a federally chartered veteran's family organization composed of 500 chapters in the United States and Puerto Rico.Its mission is to maintain advocacy for American Military Veterans of Hispanic decent.Though predominantly Hispanic, the AGIF is a fully interracial U.S. veterans and family organization.AGIF has been actively involved in various issues important to the Hispanic community including employment, housing, civil rights, women's programs and youth activities.It engages in outreach programs providing leadership and networking opportunities to its members and helps by furthering their education, advancing their employment and promoting and recognizing their accomplishments.
