Professor Jay W. Lorsch of Harvard Business School Inducted Into American Academy of Arts and Sciences

Jay W. Lorsch, the Louis E. Kirstein Professor of Human Relations at Harvard Business School (HBS) and faculty chair for the HACR/HBS Executive Education Program on Corporate Governance, has been inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, an international learned society composed of the world’s leading scientists, scholars, artists, business people, and public leaders.

"We have had the great pleasure of working closely with Professor Lorsch since the launch of the HACR/HBS Executive Education Program on Corporate Governance in 2003.His dedication and leadership on corporate governance issues has changed the way corporate governance is viewed in corporate America and by stakeholders around the world."

A member of the HBS faculty since 1964, Lorsch has taught in all the School’s educational programs and served as chair of the Doctoral Programs, the Executive Education Program, the Advancement Management Program, and the Organizational Behavior Unit. In addition, he has been a Senior Associate Dean and Director of Research.

He is the author or coauthor of more than a dozen books, including the most recent, Aligning the Stars: How to Succeed When Professionals Drive Results. Forthcoming is the new title, Back to the Drawing Board: Designing Corporate Boards for a Complex World. Lorsch is a director of Computer Associates and of several private companies. He also has consulted with diverse companies, including Ameritech, Applied Materials, the Bank of Montreal, Chubb and Sons, Citicorp, Coopers & Lybrand, Corning Glass, General Electric, Goldman Sachs, Merck Sharp, and Dohme and Petroleos de Venezuela S.A.

Lorsch earned a doctorate in business administration from Harvard Business School in 1964. He also holds a masters degree in business from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree from Antioch College.
