George Foyo Named Market President - South Florida for Blue Cross and Blue Shield |

HACR Board Member, George W. Foyo, has been appointed market president – South Florida of Blue Cross and Blue Shield, effective January 2006. He currently serves as the president and chief executive officer of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and chair of the Cuban-American National Council, a HACR Coalition member.
In his new role, Foyo will be responsible for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida’s business operations in Broward, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties.
“George Foyo has brought significant experience and leadership to the HACR Board of Directors," said Alma Morales Riojas, HACR chair of the board. "Health benefits and appropriate coverage are amongst the most critical issues to the Hispanic community. Together with his business acumen, George brings additional expertise that helps make his appointment a wise choice. Prior to joining the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, Foyo was president and chief executive officer for DirecTV Latin America. He was also a vice president of HUGHES, the majority owner of DIRECTV LA, and a member of HUGHES Management Committee. Before joining DIRECTV LA, Foyo was president and managing director for AT&T’s Caribbean & Latin America Region, responsible for all of AT&T interests in the region. He was the architect of AT&T’s regional strategy, which resulted in the acquisitions of several emerging telecommunications companies. Foyo was also responsible for managing joint ventures and fully owned operations, as well as, the interconnection agreements between AT&T and the local telephone companies in 42 countries.
Foyo serves as a board member of the Dade Community Foundation, the Beacon Council, Miami-Dade’s economic development group, where he was chairman, and the University of Illinois, Chicago, College of Engineering.
