El Hispanic News, founded in 1981 by Juan Prats, celebrates its 25th anniversary as the oldest Hispanic publication in the Pacific Northwest. While this bilingual paper primarily serves the Pacific Northwest, it supplies international, national, sports, people and business news.
Former New Mexico Secretary of State Clara Padilla Andrews is publisher having purchased the publication in 1995. With her guidance and political and business background, El Hispanic News has become a primary source for corporate America and local and state government agencies as a mean to reach out to the Hispanic market. In 2004, the National Association of Hispanic Publications gave 22 awards to the paper, including Outstanding Bilingual Weekly.
“At a time when the Nation was learning about the Hispanic population growth, El Hispanic News was already serving Latino families in the Pacific Northwest. The Honorable Clara Padilla Andrews has been a pioneer as a newspaper publisher reaching Pacific Northwest Hispanics hungry for community information in a bilingual format,” said Alma Morales Riojas, chairwoman of the HACR Board of Directors and president and CEO of MANA, A National Latina Organization. “Congratulations to El Hispanic News and to the readership that makes this publication possible.”
“Reaching 25 years of community service is no small task for a Latino publication. This milestone is the best example of hard work, dedication and passion for the Hispanic print media in the United States,” said Lupita Colmenero, HACR board member and president of the National Association on Hispanic Publications. “Mi warmest congratulations to the staff, the readers, the advertisers and in particular to Clara Padilla in this important benchmark for El Hispanic News.”
El Hispanic News is one of the top news sources in Oregon and Southwest Washington for the Latino community, which is ever growing, not only in size, but also in social, economic, and political influence.
