Washington, DC -- The Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility board of directors announced the appointment of Alfonso E. Martinez as president and CEO of the organization.
"We are delighted that Alfonso has joined us at this critical time when corporate America is increasing its engagement and outreach to the Hispanic community, and when both Democrats and Republicans are fiercly competing for the Hispanic vote during the upcoming election," said Antonio Flores, HACR chairman of the board. "Alfonso's vast experience with corporate America and its role and relationship with the Hispanic community brings an invaluable perspective to his work, the organization, and its coalition members."
Prior to joining the association, Mr. Martinez worked for Capital One Financial Services as executive director of Global Corporate Citizenship, Strategy and Policy. He oversaw Capital One's relationships with national advocacy groups, was a member of the government relation's team, managed corporate citizenship marketing, and provided leadership on a broad range of reputation management initiatives. Mr. Martinez also launched Capital One's diversity strategy and included minority recruitment, workforce diversity, and supplier diversity.
Bejore joining Capital One, Mr. Mar was vice president of Hispanic Markets for GMAC Residential, vice president of Diversity and Hispanic Business Development at Aetna Inc., and was vice president of Diversity for Marriott International. Mr. Martinez holds a BSBA from the University of Denver and a MS in Organizational Psychology from Johns Hopkins University.
Founded in 1986, HACR is a coalition of the 11 national Hispanic organization in the United States. Its mission is to ensure the inclusion of Hispanics in corporate America at a level commensurate with our economic contributions. To that end, HACR focuses on four areas of corporate economic impact: employment, procurement, philanthropy, and governance.
Collectively, HACR reflects the voice of 44.1 million Hispanics living in the United States and Puerto Rico serving these communities through advocacy, education, represenation, assistance, capacity building, public policy support, and resource development.
HACR coalition members work with more than 1,500 formal affiliates with a broader network of more than 120,000 groups and institutions serving the Hispanic community in all 50 States and Puerto Rico, including 320 institutions of higher learning, and 224 publications with a combined circulation of more than 11 million.
