The Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility’s (HACR) Board of Directors is proud to announce that Manuel Mirabal, President and CEO of the National Puerto Rican Coalition (NPRC), was elected as the new chair of the board for the 2007-2008 term during the organization’s recent annual board meeting.
Mr. Mirabal is a recognized national leader with a distinguished career in both public and private sectors. He has been recognized as one of the “100 Most Influential Hispanics” in the United States and among the “25 Most Influential Hispanics” in Washington, DC. He is an outspoken advocate on issues affecting the social, economic and political advancement of the Latino community, and a leading expert on community development, technology, and federal government employment policy.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be entrusted with the stewardship of this august body of advocates and proponents of Hispanic community development in the United States and Puerto Rico,” said Mr. Mirabal. “I look forward to working with my fellow coalition members to advance an economic agenda that makes a convincing case for the inclusion of Hispanics in corporate America in the four areas HACR associates with exemplary corporate responsibility practices: employment, procurement, philanthropy, and governance.”
Elected with Mr. Mirabal were: Alma Morales Riojas, President and CEO, MANA, A National Latina Organization as Vice Chair; Lupita Colmenero, President, National Association of Hispanic Publications as Secretary; and Ron Blackburn-Moreno, President and CEO, ASPIRA Association, Inc. was re-elected as Treasurer.The new officers, together with HACR’s President and CEO Carlos Orta, form the HACR Board’s Executive Committee.
This will be Mr. Mirabal’s second term as HACR Chairman, having served in this capacity in 2000. He has also served as Chairman of the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda (NHLA), a position he held from September 2000 to June 2004. NHLA is a coalition of 42 national Hispanic organizations and civic leaders that addresses national public policy issues affecting the Hispanic community. NHLA issues a national policy agenda and an annual Congressional Scorecard addressing social and economic issues affecting all U.S. Latinos.
In addition to his duties with HACR and NPRC, Mr. Mirabal has also been directly involved in the development of several national coalitions including serving as Founding Chair of the Hispanic Technology and Telecommunications Partnership (HTTP), a coalition of Hispanic organizations that addresses digital divide issues. He currently serves on the National Board of Trustees of the United Way of America as well as on the organization’s Katrina Hurricane Response & Recovery Fund Task Forcewhich to date has issued grants totaling 22.2 million dollars to 101 service organizations in 73 communities.
