Applications for HACR’s Program on Corporate Governance at the Harvard Business School Now Available

Even though Hispanics in the United States are estimated to represent almost a trillion dollars in annual purchasing power, they currently hold fewer than 3 percent of Fortune 1000 board seats and an even smaller percentage (1.1) of executive officer positions. HACR’s Program on Corporate Governance was designed and developed by Harvard Business School faculty for existing and prospective corporate board members, C-level executives, as well as business, non-profit, academic and government leaders, to address this underrepresentation.

“HACR’s Corporate Governance Program is an important element of our corporate governance initiatives and to date over 180 individuals have attended the program,” said HACR President & CEO, Carlos F. Orta. “It complements our research on Hispanics serving on Fortune 1000 companies’ boards, relationships with executive search firms, and a growing database of qualified board candidates.”

The HACR program at the Harvard Business School explores critical issues ranging from board composition, director selection, and compensation, to board role in strategic planning, overseeing financial reporting and disclosure, and top-management succession. Participants in the program acquire skills and strategies that will add significant value to corporate boards, specific ideas for improving these boards, and a better understanding of shareholder responsibility.

This year’s program will be conducted August 2 - 5, 2009. Applications may be downloaded at the HACR web site: http://www.hacr.org/hbs/pageID.101/default.asp. Deadline to submit applications is May 29, 2009.
