The DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund recently approved a $50,000 charitable grant to Kids Voting USA, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to preparing future generations of citizens to be engaged and educated voters. The organization provides teaching curriculum to more than 200,000 teachers across the country and it is supported by the U.S. Department of Education.
The DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund's grant will support the launch of a Latino Outreach Pilot Project in select communities in Texas, Florida, and Arizona designed to engage Hispanic students and their parents about the importance of citizenship, civic responsibility, democracy and voting. The project will include the production of materials that profile role model Hispanic elected officials, links to Hispanic political organizations, teacher guides, and public service announcements.
“The DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund is pleased to support Kids Voting USA and its efforts to engage youth about the importance of casting an educated vote,” said W. Frank Fountain, president of the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund. “The long term impact of this voting initiative will serve to enhance the quality of candidates being placed into vital leadership positions within our communities and nation.”
“On behalf of HACR, I would like to commend the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund for their efforts toward educating Hispanics- the future of America,” said Rima K. Matsumoto, executive director of HACR. “DaimlerChrysler’s recent contribution plays an important role in engaging more Hispanics students and their parents about the importance of citizenship, civic responsibility and voting -all pillars of American democracy.”
DaimlerChrysler Corporation, a subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler AG, established the Chrysler Fund in 1953 as a nonprofit entity with the sole purpose of enriching the physical and cultural needs of all communities. Now known as the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund, focuses its efforts on programs that support the four pillars of "Good Neighbor, Good Citizen": future workforce, community vitality, involved employees, and public policy, and market place issues.
