Alejandro Silva, a 2003 alum of the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility and Harvard Business School (HACR/HBS) Executive Education Program on Corporate Governance, was appointed to the board of directors of Chicago’s PrivateBancorp, Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiary, The PrivateBank and Trust Company.

“On behalf of HACR, we wish to congratulate Alejandro Silva, a graduate of our HACR/HBS Executive Program, on his recent appointment,” said Rima K. Matsumoto, executive director of HACR.“Mr. Silva’s experience and insights as a successful entrepreneur and his involvement in the local community will be great assets to PrivateBancorp’s board.”

Silva is currently chairman of Evans Food Group, Ltd., the largest Hispanic-owned company in the Chicago area.In 1972, he entered the food business in Mexico as operating manager and assistant plant manager of KIR Alimentos S.A.In 1979, he began a business venture – Alimentos Finos del Norte, S.A. in Saltillo, Mexico, then went on to acquire Evans Food Group.

Silva is active in numerous civic and charitable organizations.He is chairman of the finance and budgeting committee of the Chicago Transit Authority; chairman of the Chicago/Mexico Sister Cities Committee; executive committee member of the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations; vice president of the Mid-America chapter of the United States/Mexico Chamber of Commerce; and board member of the New America Alliance.

Silva is the recipient of the Mexican American Chamber of Commerce of Illinois Food Industry Award; Midwest African/American Business Development Conference Latino Globalist Award; and the U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Enterprises Development Agency Award.
