WHY IS STEM SO IMPORTANT?

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, STEM field growth is expected to outpace overall employment growth in the near future. Consequently, a shortage of qualified candidates for open STEM positions is also predicted. While many industries have made strides in improving Hispanic representation, STEM-related industries continue to struggle to recruit and retain Hispanic talent. They’re missing out on a significant pool of potential employees—about 18 percent of the U.S. population is of Hispanic descent, and that number is expected to increase to 28 percent by 2060. Join this webinar hosted by HACR Executive Vice President and COO Dr. Lisette Garcia, with guest speakers Raquel Tamez, CEO of the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and Dr. David Ortiz, Senior Vice President for Operations at the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU). They’ll be discussing barriers that limit Hispanic inclusion in STEM professions, and ways to mitigate these shortfalls moving forward.
